Black Coffee couldn’t afford to pay rent 15 years ago, he reminisce 68

Black Coffee reflected on his life and how far he has come to become a successful DJ who is renowned across the globe.

15 years ago, when he wasn’t as known as he is today, he was doind nothing but honing his skills while waiting for his big break and thanks to the legendary music guru, Oskido he got his.

“15 years ago around this time ,while struggling to pay for rent and to make ends meet I was working on this (unofficially) Remix of this Gem by Thandiswa Mazwai originally produced by the King Don Father, Spikiri Mandla.” he wrote in part.

Black Coffee confessed he didn’t even have a plan to go around the process of submitting the song to any label so that it can be officially released so that it can get to be listened to by fans.

“I didn’t really have a plan or a contact on how to submit it to the label so it could be official, but I continued to work on it with so much Faith that these big Artists will eventually hear it and approve it for release” he added.

While he was still hoping to get recognized by the then big names in the music industry while honing his DJ skills, he finally got to get a deal for his debut album which was self-titled which was released back in 2005 and like they say, the rest is history.

“fast forward to a few months later with the assistance of the Legendary Oskido who gave me my first recording deal for my Album, my self titled debut album was released in 2005.” he continued.

adding;

“This now marking 15 years of my professional career at the closing party at Shimmy Beach, Cape Town. Last night I couldn’t think of any better song to close with. To God be the glory.”
